Reading Time: 2 minutes

Evy Reviers is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ALS Liga België – the Belgium equivalent of the MND Association. They are hosting the 25th International Symposium on ALS/MND in December 2014. Here she blogs about their role as this year’s host organisation.

The renowned International Symposium on ALS/MND, organized by the MND Association in co-operation with the International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations, is the largest medical and scientific conference specific to MND. It is the premier event in the MND research calendar for discussion on the latest advances in research and clinical management.

The symposium will be held in Brussels (Belgium) from 5 – 7 December 2014, preceded by the 22nd Annual Alliance Meeting from 2 – 4 December.

About ALS Liga België

ALS Liga België is proud to host the festive 25th edition of the symposium. It is an international recognition for our long standing effort to communicate scientific progression on ALS/MND to our patients in a comprehensive way.

Furthermore we accelerate scientific research on ALS/MND by continuous fund raising here in Belgium. Our financial resources are collected in the dedicated Fund ‘A cure for ALS’, by which we support researchers working on MND in Belgium, Belgian MND researchers working abroad, and internationally renowned MND scientists. Besides established researchers we also support junior investigators working on a promising research project.

Recently, ALS Liga België set up the Belgian branch of project MinE, dedicated to international ground-breaking genetic MND research. To ultimately find a cure for this devastating disease, the project aims to map the DNA profiles of at least 15,000 MND patients and 7,500 controls. The ambassador of the Belgian branch of project MinE is Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council.

Brussels 2014

Brussels, Belgium’s capital and the political and administrative centre of Europe, is a cosmopolitan city rich in culture and diversity. It has gained a reputation as a must-see destination, with its small town charm, numerous museums and many other attractions. The city highlights are also accessible for travellers with reduced mobility, making it the ideal place for the 25th International Symposium on ALS/MND.

See you all in Brussels in six months time!

The MND Association’s vision is a world free from MND. Realising this vision means investing more in research, further developing partnerships with the research community, funding bodies and industry, while ensuring that advances in understanding and treating MND are communicated as quickly and effectively as possible. Our Research Development team, composed of 11 members, work hard to achieve this. Principally, the Research Information team within this are involved in communication activities including this MND Research blog.
