Relating to the haploid set of chromosomes in a gamete or microorganism, or the complete set of genes in a cell or organism. A haploid cell has a single set of chromosomes. In eukaryotes, cells are diploid, meaning they have two sets of chromosomes. One set comes from each parent. In animals, including humans, haploid cells are the sperm and egg cells or the gametes.
